LMG Mentoring Network: June Mentor of the Month

Sarah McKee

Project Associate

Linnet Agnes Awor, from Reproductive Health Uganda, is our June Mentor of the Month.

Why did you want to be a mentor?

My passion lies in making a difference in the lives of women and girls, in whichever way I can. I have been mentored, so I need to mentor others. I believe in sharing with others any information and knowledge that may be relevant to them.

I believe that I can inspire, empower, support, and challenge young and interested girls to become better leaders.

I understand that as girls grow, there are many challenges that they meet, and if not supported, these challenges may turn out to be a real life-time obstacle to their career paths.

What has been you greatest professional accomplishment?

My greatest professional achievement so far has been empowering community women to influence decisions on family planning in the Luwero and Mityana districts in Uganda. Right from the inception stage, I engaged women to make inputs in the project.

After a series of empowerment activities, women began appreciating themselves as leaders who must engage with duty bearers to increase access to family planning services at the community level. These women advocates are now able to engage with leaders on many issues, including family planning.
