Kathleen Alvarez

Director, Latin America and Caribbean, Health Programs Group

Kathleen Alvarez is a Country Portfolio Director on the Leadership, Management, and Governance (LMG) Project. Ms. Alvarez is currently responsible for overseeing and supporting a portfolio of projects in Nigeria, Vietnam, Peru, and Honduras. Ms. Alvarez’s experience covers a broad spectrum of activities including basic health services, community-based health care, nutrition, community agriculture, micro-finance, micro-enterprise and business development services, organizational capacity building, and grants management. Her career in International Development has involved resident and short-term assignments in Latin America, Africa, and Central Asia, including situations of post-conflict and natural disaster. During her more than 12 years working with MSH, Ms. Alvarez’s responsibilities have included the positions of Director for Bi-lateral Project Design in the office of Business Resource Development, Program Manager for the REACH Project in Afghanistan where she led the $80 million program providing grants and pharmaceuticals to 29 NGOs, Regional Desk Officer for Asia/Near East, and Program Associate for projects in Asia. Prior to joining MSH, Ms. Alvarez was Country Director for Pro Mujer Nicaragua and worked in the field of corporate social responsibility through her position as Assistant Director of International Development with the grassroots NGO, Coffee Kids.
