Malaria is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Liberia, especially affecting children under five and pregnant women. Nearly 40% of outpatient consultations and 42% of inpatient deaths are attributable to the disease. More than 1.2 million cases of malaria were diagnosed in 2010, with children under 5 years representing 38% of cases; children 5 years and above accounting for 55%, and pregnant women accounting for 6%.

With support from the President's Malaria Initiative, the USAID-funded Leadership, Management, and Governance National Malaria Control Program Capacity Building (LMG/NMCP) Project, partnered with the Liberia NMCP to improve coordinated national efforts in the fight against malaria.

This fact sheet details some of the LMG/NMCP Project's key accomplishments in Liberia.
