Benin

Project Dates: October 2012 - September 2015

Project Overview:
The U.S. Agency for International Development and Management Sciences for Health, in collaboration with other members of the existing Leadership, Management, and Governance (LMG) Project consortium in Bénin, developed the LMG/Bénin Project to strengthen the capacity of health managers, leaders, and teams to implement health programs.

LMG/Bénin collaborated with national health leadership to strengthen technical skills in health services; leadership and management skills; ethics and values of compassion, accountability, and transparency; and behaviors that demonstrate these skills and values.

To achieve these ambitious goals, LMG/Bénin modeled, trained, and mentored stakeholders in health leadership best practices. Guiding changes in behavior and attitude, the Project enabled the Bénin Ministry of Health (MOH) to promote healthy teamwork and communication throughout the health system.

Results/Outcomes/Impacts:

  • LMG/Bénin coordinated and supported the development of a national gender mainstreaming strategy for the MOH.
  • LMG/Bénin supported capacity-building for the health system’s decentralized structures with MOH and private sector stakeholders, including the Réseau des ONG Béninois en Santé (ROBS) and the Ordre des Pharmaciens (ONPB).
