Afghanistan’s Community-Based Health Care (CBHC) system was established in 2002. Since then, 27,662 community health workers (CHWs) have been trained for 15,337 health posts. Of these trained CHWs, nearly half are female, a significant accomplishment in a country where women traditionally have had limited involvement in activities outside of the home, particularly in rural settings.
