Malaria is the most common cause of illness and death in Sierra Leone. Half of all outpatient visits are caused by malaria, and malaria-related illnesses contribute to 38% of child mortality rates and 25% of all-ages mortality rates. The most vulnerable groups include children under 5 years old and pregnant women.

With support from the President’s Malaria Initiative, the USAID-funded Leadership, Management, and Governance National Malaria Control Program Capacity Building (LMG/NMCP) Project, partnered with the Sierra Leone NMCP to improve coordinated national efforts in the fight against malaria.

This fact sheet details some of the LMG/NMCP Project’s key accomplishments in Sierra Leone.
