Four Examples of How Mentorship Transforms Family Planning

The U.S. Agency for International Development-funded Leadership, Management, and Governance (LMG) Project understands how essential leadership skills are to effective family planning programs. Similarly, the “Family Planning High Impact Practices” series recognizes leadership and management as key ingredients necessary to foster an enabling environment for successful family planning programs.

One of the LMG Project’s approaches to leadership development is through mentorship. In 2015, the LMG Project established an online mentoring network for professional women across East Africa who promote family planning and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) in different capacities. The East Africa Women’s Mentoring Network (EAWMN) matches aspiring and experienced women leaders, to facilitate personal and professional development for both mentors and mentees.

In preparation for the fourth International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP), being held in Indonesia from January 25-28, we want to highlight four mentor and mentee pairs from the network to demonstrate their progress and experiences.
