How to Find the Right Moisturizer

Just like monotonous routine calls for a change, the way you’re hydrating your skin needs to be changed too. Just as the weather changes, you have to change your beauty regime, especially if it’s not working for you.

So here you are drinking your water, and eating your fruits and veggies daily…but what else can you do to maintain the radiance of your skin? Use moisturizers!

Right Moisturizer

Of course, the very questions that bug us while thinking of using a moisturizer is which moisturizer to use, what kind of moisturizer to use, what moisturizer to use for my skin type, which brand is the best…But you don’t have to keep this dilemma with you anymore because below are some amazing tips for you to keep in mind when you’re on a mission to find the right moisturizer for your skin.

When to use ointment, cream, and lotion

So, lets clear this up right now, whether your skin is dry or oily, you need a moisturizer. A moisturizing cream is recommended for normal skin; a moisturizing ointment is suitable for the itchy and dry skin to help it lock the moisture inside and since the lightest of all the moisturizers is a lotion, it is suggested for oily skin, or combination skin.  I have extremely oily skin, and although I am tempted to skip this part of my regime, I know it’s the most important.  Let’s take a closer look at how to find the right moisturizer for the different skin types.

Oily Skin

Choose the moisturizer according to the type of skin you have. As mentioned above, if you have oily skin, using a light oil-free moisturizer.  Using an ointment or cream would only bring more oil to your skin instead of keeping it healthy and radiant.  Doing this will create more skins problems, such as acne.  I have extremely oily skin and my favorite moisturizer is Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel – Combination Oily To Oily Skin Clinique 6.7 oz Moisturizer For Unisex.

Combination Skin

You may have a combination of dry and oily skin. Combination skin is tricky; this means that you have oily areas and dry areas.  The oily part of the face is usually in the t-zone area (forehead, nose, and chin).  So how do you pick the right moisturizers for that. Well, lucky for you, there are many products out there for combination skin.  For you, it is best to test a small area with a heavy cream or a non-greasy lighter lotion, after which you can decide which one is more suitable.  For combination skin, you must realize that not one size fits all.  So, make sure not to use products formulated for dry skin or oily skin only.  The trick is to find an oil-free moisturizer formulated for combination skin.  Some moisturizers, such as Paula’s Choice SKIN BALANCING Invisible Finish Moisture Gel Moisturizer with Antioxidants and Niacinamide  is formulated for combination skin.

Dry Skin

Dry Skin is another type of skin that requires a moisturizer specific to that skin type…hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.  For dry skin, you will need a moisturizer that will absorb quickly and will soothe the skin. This will transform you skin to a radiant glow.  Clinique has two moisturizers that works wonders on the dry skin:

Sensitive Skin

Some of us have really sensitive skin, and must choose moisturizer free of perfume, dyes, or other harsh ingredients such as gylcolic, salicylic acid.  If not, you will end up with itchy and sometimes red skin.  I would recommend Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer For Sensitive Skin With Broad Spectrum Spf 15.

Normal Skin

Normal skin…what is this exactly?  This skin type has the perfect balance of moisture, the skin is neither oily or dry. This type of skin has small pores and the skin tone is even.  Do you believe that most people fall under this category?  I don’t know about that, but that’s what the experts say. Clinique has the perfect moisturizer for an already perfect face.  Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion

More Tips

Avoid moisturizer having unnecessary ingredients in them. Unnecessary ingredients may include alcohol, antibacterial agents, colorings, numerous acids like; retinoic acid, glycolic acid etc. and body-friendly ingredients like; shea butter, wax and mineral oil that only may cause irritation.

Look for SPF 15 or higher in the ingredients of the sunscreen. What could be better than having a moisturizer that can combat damaged skin from ultraviolet rays?

Take notice of the labels on it; look at the labels for words such as, ‘allergy tested’ and ‘noncomedogenic’ (less tendency to clog pores).

There are so many moisturizers on the market today. You have moisturizers to fight acne, to get rid of wrinkles, for nighttime, for daytime, with SPF, so as you can see getting hold of the right moisturizer is not less than a challenge. Finding it may seem like a trial-and-error exercise at times because of so many on the market, but one thing is for certain, you must have one.

Your turn

Do you have a favorite moisturizer and why?
